What are good painting tools?

What painting tools are there?

When it comes to painting tools, a distinction is made between different areas of application. The numerous and diverse brushes can be used in different situations and make painting easier. Using the right brush can make work much easier and save time on your projects.

Paintbrushes
Paintbrushes are painting tools for applying liquids and consist of the following components: The handle is made of wood or plastic, which vary in material and length. The bristles are responsible for applying the paint. The types of brushes differ only in shape and size. However, there are also round and flat brushes. The bristles of the brushes are either synthetic or made from natural pig bristles.

Paint stripper brushes
If sanding or sanding before painting is not sufficient, old paint or varnish must be stripped. A paint stripper brush is used as a painting tool to apply the stain. This paintbrush is rectangular and narrow and has a plastic frame and often strong nylon bristles. The brushes are of very high quality and do not shed hair. A stain primarily changes the colour of the wood and also serves to protect against mould.

Surface brushes
Surface brushes are particularly suitable as a painting tool for painting large facades, walls or floors.

Flat or paint brushes
The flat brush is the most commonly used of all brushes. These painting tools are available in various widths and thicknesses. The flat or paint brush is mostly used for painting large surfaces. The handle is wide and has a good grip. When selecting the thickness of the brushes, the higher the quality, the greater the thickness should be.

Radiator brush
The radiator brush is used for painting radiators. The long, often angled style makes it easy to paint the spaces in between. These painting tools are suitable for applying paint and varnish in hard-to-reach areas.

Flat brush
The flat brush is a flat brush. There are straight and curved flat brushes in various sizes. These painting tools are used in all areas that are difficult to reach with normal brushes.

Ring brush / round brush
The ring brush (round brush) has a round bristle cross-section. Usually equipped with an untreated wooden handle, the ring brush is considered the perfect paint brush. These painting tools are suitable for working on doors and windows, for example. It is easy to guide so that even complicated areas can be painted easily. The ring brush is often used for applying paint, primers and glazes (e.g. bottom edges of windows).

Window brushes
Window brushes have an angled cut, which enables particularly precise work on window frames. This painting tool can also be used to paint door frames.

Surface brush / flat brush
The flat brush is a wide brush with a width of 7 to 14 cm. The painting tools have long bristles and are particularly suitable for large surfaces such as walls or façades, as the paint can be spread generously.

Paint roller
A paint roller consists of a bent metal rod with a handle and a roller for applying paint. Paint rollers are the preferred painting tool for large areas, as the rollers ensure an even application of paint.

The following tips can be helpful when using painting tools

Brushes

  • Never let them dry out.
  • Wrap brushes in plastic film for short breaks.
  • Clean brushes thoroughly with water and remove all paint residue.
  • Depending on the paint or varnish being used, a paint remover or brush cleaner may need to be used.
  • The paint residue can be easily loosened and washed out using circular movements when washing out.
  • The brush should be dry before the next coat of paint.
  • Even good brushes can lose hair at the beginning. The brush should therefore be tried out on a test surface the first time it is used. This removes any loose bristle hairs. High-quality brushes will then no longer lose hair.

Paint roller / paint rollers

  • Turn the roller regularly so that one side is not worn down by excessive pressure.
  • Clean rollers and hangers thoroughly to achieve optimum results.
  • Correct storage: To prevent damage to the roller and bracket.

Painting

  • Clean the substrate
  • Cover and mask off the areas not to be painted
  • Put on protective clothing
  • Calculate paint quantity and paint consumption. Mix the paint (tip: stir the paint pot carefully so that the paint mixes)
