Hexagon nuts

Hexagon nuts are available in various sizes, materials and strengths. The connections are standardised according to DIN or ISO. They can be attached to a screw or threaded bolt via the internal thread. Hexagon nuts have six sides in the head. They are the most commonly used type of nut. Whether in construction or in the private sector, nuts are essential for fastening. Hexagon nuts DIN 934 and ISO 4032 are the most commonly used nuts.

How is a hexagon nut used?

The hexagon nut can easily be screwed on by hand. To tighten it, however, an open-end spanner spanner is required for tightening. It is important to use the correct size.

  • What does the strength class of a nut stand for?

    Only one number is used for each nut. This indicates the strength class of the screw up to which the nut can be used. For a bolt with strength class 8.8, the nut should also have strength class 8. If the bolt and nut have the same property class, the risk of stripping threads is reduced.

  • What do the different thread types mean?

    When it comes to thread types, a distinction is mainly made between metric and inch threads. For metric threads, the distance travelled during one revolution is the distance in mm between the thread tips. For inch threads, it is the number of threads that have the distance in inches.

  • How do I find the right nut for the screw?

    Fasteners are defined by specialists depending on the requirements. It is therefore known which standard, surface, material, thread type, drive, etc. is required. The appropriate nut can be found using various criteria with the SFS nut finder in our eShop.

  • When was the hexagon nut invented?

    It is not entirely clear when the hexagon nut was invented. The first connection between screw and nut was used in Europe after 1400. The first machine for manufacturing nuts and bolts was built in 1568.

  • What does DIN 934 mean?

    DIN stands for the German Institute for Standardisation. They develop standards for objects such as screws and nuts. DIN 934 stands for a hexagon nut as a counterpart to a screw or threaded bolt. This standard has a normal high internal thread.
