Customer story: Asedo sets new standards with the innovative Connected Metrology software from the Hoffmann Group

Top quality

Any company that operates mainly in the pharmaceutical sector – like Asedo, based in the Middle Franconian municipality of Dombühl – must always meet the most exacting quality standards in their work. That’s why Rolf Hänschen, Head of Training and the person responsible for quality control at Asedo, is proud to highlight how his company has been a successful player in the parts manufacturing, control cabinet construction and plant engineering sectors for more than three decades as a QM-certified business in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001:2015. Working with “exotic” materials such as stainless steel or complex plastic parts requires the utmost precision and reliability, which means the company needs lots of special measuring tools. Ever since Asedo was founded, these have been reliably supplied by the Hoffmann Group. However, it was time to take things to the next level as Asedo was looking to simplify things.

For Rolf Hänschen, there’s a simple reason why Asedo opted for the intelligent Connected Metrologymeasuring tool management solution:

“We’ve always been impressed by the Hoffmann Group’s delivery reliability of 99.8 per cent. Given our great collaboration, we had previously already decided to start using Trendic as the first software program for testing equipment.”

However, when recalibrating the tools, this software often meant the tools were sent away for too long, sometimes up to eight weeks. Moreover, improvements suggested by Asedo were only implemented in part, or barely implemented at all.

Asedo as a professional pilot customer

Rolf Hänschen was, therefore, pleased to take up the offer of contributing to the Hoffmann Group’s new Connected Metrology software as a pilot customer – a tool which is ideally placed to organise the digital management and calibration workflows for Asedo’s measuring tools: “I was impressed by the systematic approach that was taken. What’s more, the software developers and support team were always willing to listen to our ideas. It was this, together with Hoffmann’s assurance that the tools would be away for recalibration for no more than two weeks, that ultimately convinced us to get involved.“

Anyone who is open to innovation and wants to try out something new is almost certain to encounter some bumps in the road. In this case, one particular challenge in the initial phase was the amount of time that the testing equipment was away for. However, Rolf Hänschen had long recognised the enormous potential of the software: “Because Connected Metrology works on all devices, we need much less manpower to map the calibration of the testing equipment. It doesn’t matter if it’s a PC, mobile phone or tablet – I can access my data from anywhere. The QR code also means I can check the status of the testing equipment straight away.”

Logical, simple, intuitive

The software also has a very simple and logical design. According to Rolf Hänschen, another advantage is “that the final version lets you save photos of all measuring tools and testing equipment. This means every employee immediately knows what the item looks like. In the future, we envisage there being an automated system that takes the testing equipment from the cabinets and makes it available for the job.”

An investment for the future

Whether it’s for testing and tooling or for new technologies, the Hoffmann Group is always on hand as an expert and reliable partner: “If we have a new idea, an application engineer is always available with a few tools. In the Production department, we try out what is and is not doable.” At the same time, Hänschen is delighted that the Hoffmann Group is a one-stop shop for everything he needs. “That’s exactly the type of partner that a mechanical engineering company like us requires. Moreover, the Hoffmann Group is able to constantly reinvent itself, and they’re committed to offering their customers the best possible support.” Last but not least, Rolf Hänschen praises Hoffmann’s future-oriented approach: “I visited the new logistics centre in Nuremberg a while ago. When you see how much money is being spent there to invest in the future, you know as a customer that you’ve got the right partner by your side. That’s why I hope that our future collaboration with the Hoffmann Group will continue to be as seamless and successful as it has been to date.”
