During galvanizing (named after Luigi Galvani) or electrolytic galvanizing, the steel is immersed in a zinc bath. It is an electrolyte bath in which direct current flows. The current flow ensures that the metal ions in the steel (iron and zinc) attach to the surface of the steel parts. The zinc layer created by galvanizing is particularly thin - depending on the material thickness of the galvanized part, approx. 3 - 10 my.
