The material 1.4122 is also known as X39CrMo17-1. This is a stainless, martensitic steel. Due to the high chromium content of up to 17%, the resistance to corrosion is higher than chrome steel, which only has a 13% chromium content. But this chrome steel is also not suitable for use in conjunction with seawater. Furthermore, this material has very good wear resistance.

Stainless steel refers to alloyed or unalloyed steels that contain at least 10.5% chromium and less than 1.2% carbon. Colloquially, stainless steel is also referred to as stainless steel (NiRo), although not all stainless steel is the same as "stainless".

The term plain indicates a completely untreated, merely oiled, smooth surface for all DIN and ISO screws such as wood screws, hexagon head screws, threaded rods, nuts and many types of washers.

In this series, martensitic stainless steels are classified into grades C1, C3, C4 and special grades. Special martensitic stainless steel grades can be heat-treated. Caution is advised at temperatures below freezing. Martensitic steel grades are always highly magnetic.
